Let’s talk about knowing when to say no.

Because sometimes, it’s not about quitting—it’s about obeying.
There comes a moment where you’ve given your all, you’ve prayed, you’ve waited, and deep down… you know. That gate God placed in front of you? It’s meant to stay closed.

This week on Unscripted Conversations, we’re pulling back the curtain on what it really looks like to release something that no longer has peace on it. We’re talking about boundaries, burnout, and bravely choosing obedience over obligation.

Why Knowing When to Say No Matters

Letting go doesn’t mean you failed.
Walking away doesn’t make you weak.
And closing the gate doesn’t mean you’re closing your heart.

Sometimes God asks us to release something—not because we got it wrong, but because it served its purpose. And we’re not meant to carry it forever.

In this episode we’ll talk about:

  • How guilt often clouds our ability to say no
  • The difference between quitting and obeying
  • When peace dries up, that may be your cue
  • Why boundaries are biblical
  • Letting go of assignments that have expired
  • Trusting that obedience will never cost you what God hasn’t already accounted for

A scripture that hit hard this week:

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”Romans 12:2 NLT

Whew. That one gets me every time.

Let’s talk about it.

There are seasons where we’re called to fight for something. But there are also seasons where God whispers, “Let it go. It’s time to walk away.”

And I don’t know about you, but I’ve wasted a whole lot of time trying to push past closed doors because I didn’t want to disappoint anybody. I’ve kept saying yes to things that drained me because I thought it was “the right thing to do.”

But if God isn’t in it anymore — it doesn’t matter how many people expect it from you. Your peace is proof of His presence. And when that peace dries up? It might be time to pause and pray: “Lord, is this a gate You’re asking me to walk away from?”

  1. Oh boy! I listen to all your podcasts; must say this one was written for me. I have been wrestling with guilt for so long, as I am a people pleaser as well;it’s become a part of me that was never meant to be. No longer! I am closing that gate once and for all with the help of Jesus! Thank you for these words Ashley.
