Are you looking for a fun and easy way to decorate your home on a budget? This DIY Dollar Tree planter makeover is the perfect project! With just a few supplies and a little creativity, you can turn a plain plastic planter into a stunning piece you’ll love to display.
For this project, I painted the bright blue planter a pretty pink color and added etched roses using storm-colored chalk paste. The finished look is soft, elegant, and perfect for spring or summer decor.

Supplies You’ll Need for this dollar tree makeover:
- Dollar Tree plastic planter
- Chalk paint (Waverly the color Mineral)
- Chalk paste (Colors: Storm, Peachy Keen, & Guava)
- Etched Rose Transfer from my shop
- Paintbrushes
- Squeegee
- Clear sealer spray (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions to makeover you own dollar tree planter:
Step 1: Clean the Planter
Start by wiping down your Dollar Tree planter to remove any dust or dirt. This will help the paint stick better. Also, if your planter is plastic like mine was, run a sanding block over it to give it a good scuff. This will also help the paint to stick better.
Step 2: Paint the Planter Pink
Using a paintbrush, apply a base coat of chalk paint to the entire planter. I used the color mineral by Waverly. Let it dry completely, and then apply a second coat for full coverage. While it is drying, grab your chalk paste in peachy keen and guava and mix them. This comes out a beautiful pink almost terracotta color.
Step 3: Add the Etched Roses
Once the paint is dry, place your rose stencil on the planter after fuzzing it well to cut the stickiness down a bit. Smooth it out and check to make sure there are no air bubbles. Then, with your squeegee, apply the Storm-colored chalk paste over the stencil using a squeegee. Gently remove the stencil to reveal the beautiful rose pattern.
Step 4: Seal Your Project
For extra protection, especially if your planter will be outdoors, spray it with a clear sealer.
This DIY Dollar Tree planter makeover is such an easy and affordable project. Plus, it’s a great way to add your own style to your home decor. The pink paint and etched roses give it a soft and romantic feel. Best of all, you can customize the colors to match any season or space!
So next time you visit Dollar Tree, grab a few planters and get creative. DIY projects like this prove that beautiful home decor doesn’t have to cost a lot.
