Embracing Change with God: Change Is Not the Enemy

Out here in the Virginia woods, change shows up first in the trees. Cedar and pines stay green, while the oaks and maples begin their slow dance into gold and rust. Every leaf reminds me that embracing change with God is part of His rhythm — trusting His plan even when we can’t see it.
Last week on Unscripted Conversations, we talked about being Gathered & Grateful — seeing God in everyday moments. This week, we’re going deeper: learning to let go, trust His timing, and find peace in the shift.
For Everything There Is a Season
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1–8
Life moves in rhythms. Embracing change with God means learning to move with them. Some seasons are loud and full of laughter; others are quiet and refining.
I’ve watched it in my own life — friends who were once daily calls are now raising kids and running busy homes. We still love each other, but life looks different. That’s okay. God gives every season its rhythm, whether gathering or growing.
Behold, I Am Doing a New Thing
When God shifts something in your life, it’s not to take away — it’s to make room.
Embracing change with God means trusting that He’s still painting, even when the picture changes.
“Forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new.” -Isaiah 43:18–19
When my boys were little, every stage felt precious. Now they’re grown, and I see that what once felt like loss was really God’s way of growing all of us. He was writing a new story the whole time.
All Things Work Together for Good
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him.” – Romans 8:28
We see one blurry piece of the puzzle; God sees the masterpiece.
Embracing change with God means believing that even the messy pieces matter.
Every delay and detour has purpose. God never wastes a season — He uses each one to draw us closer to Him.
Let It Grow
“When troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” – James 1:2–4
Change tests our faith but also strengthens it. It’s easy to trust God when everything’s smooth — but when life shifts, that’s when our faith takes root. If you’re walking through a hard change, remember: you’re not breaking, you’re becoming.
A Flourishing Finish – Philippians 1:6
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”
Even when life feels unfinished, He’s still working.
Change doesn’t cancel His promise — it’s part of it.
I think about my projects — half-painted boards, wax drying, and Sam asking, “You sure this’ll look right?” and me laughing, saying, “Trust the process.”
That’s what God tells us too. Trust His process — He’s shaping you for a flourishing finish.
Finding Peace by Embracing Change with God
The trees outside remind me that every season has its beauty. Some hold on; others let go. And yet, every one is right where it should be.
Maybe this week, take a moment to breathe. Close the planner (even the budget one 😉), look around, and see where God’s been faithful. Because even when everything changes, He never does.

Oh my goodness, you’ve got me tearing up over here 🥹 Isn’t it just like God to use the right people at the right time? I’m so grateful He crossed our paths and that He’s stirring your heart again — that’s the kind of miracle that gives me chills. Watching you rediscover your faith and find love like that… shew, that’s the good stuff. God’s fingerprints are all over your story, friend. I’m just honored to be a tiny part of it. Love you big right back, and give John a big hug from both me and Sam. ❤️
