Gratitude & Humility: Living With a Thankful Heart

Hey y’all, today we’re diving into Episode 16 of Unscripted Conversations, and it’s one that sits close to my heart. We’re talking about gratitude and humility — two little words that don’t sound flashy, but goodness, they can change the whole way we live if we let them. Gratitude shifts our eyes to see what God has already placed in front of us, and humility keeps us grounded so we don’t start thinking it’s all about us.

Learning Gratitude
Gratitude is more than whispering a quick “thank You, Lord” before supper. It’s a rhythm we build into our days — choosing to notice His goodness in both the big and the ordinary. When the bills are paid, when the coffee is hot, even when the laundry pile feels taller than me — gratitude reminds me I’m blessed beyond measure. It’s not about denying hard days, but about finding God’s fingerprints in the middle of them.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)
Walking in Humility
Now humility, that’s a whole different kind of stretching. Humility isn’t about shrinking down or pretending we don’t matter. It’s about knowing Who really deserves the credit. It’s bowing low enough to let God take the lead and remembering that we don’t have to carry it all ourselves. Humility pulls the pride out of us and makes room for grace to flow.
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” — James 4:6 (NLT)
Gratitude & Humility: The Power of Both Together
Here’s the real beauty — when gratitude and humility show up together. Gratitude softens us so we can actually see God’s blessings, and humility anchors us so we don’t forget Who gave them. It’s in that mix that joy really takes root. A thankful heart paired with a humble spirit makes us more patient, more forgiving, and more willing to love people well.
A Few Things to Reflect On
As you listen to this episode, I’d encourage you to ask yourself: Where do I need to pause and just say, “thank You, Lord”? And are there places where I’ve been holding on too tightly instead of letting humility bring me back to center?
final thoughts on Gratitude & Humility
Life won’t always hand us the picture-perfect story. Some days it’s burnt biscuits, wilted flowers, and prayers whispered through tears. But even then, gratitude and humility can turn the ordinary into something holy. They remind us that God is good, even when circumstances aren’t.

Ashley,
I know I haven’t listened to your past podcasts, but when I do listen to the different lessons and how you explain each one I understand what that chapter and verse means . can’t wait for the next lesson. I’m trying my best to embrace Andreas from my husband’s passing this past June 14th 2025. We would’ve been married 40years on September 7,2025 . He’ll be very much missed but never forgotten.
