Preserve the Good Stuff – Canning Truths for the Season Ahead

There’s something special about canning season.
The jars. The routine. The quiet time.
It forces you to slow down and ask yourself,
“What do I want to hold onto when this season ends?”
That same question applies to your spiritual life.
In this episode of Unscripted Conversations, we talk about how to preserve the good stuff God is doing before life rushes into the next chapter.
Because not everything that grows in your life is meant to be kept.
And not everything that’s good comes easy.
Not Everything Needs to Be Preserved
I know it’s tempting to try and keep everything God allowed to grow.
But sometimes, what grew was only meant to feed you for a moment—not forever.
In the episode, I unpack why it’s important to let go of the things that look good but aren’t meant for your next season.
That includes habits, relationships, routines, and even certain mindsets.
If it’s not bearing fruit anymore—or if it spoiled while you were trying to hang on too long—let it go.
What’s Worth Keeping Takes Effort
Preserving anything takes real work.
Whether you’re canning produce or holding onto peace, it doesn’t happen by accident.
You’ve got to show up.
Clean the jars.
And wipe the rims, boil the lids, and pray you bought enough vinegar.
And sometimes? You’ve got to try again when it all goes sideways.
Let me tell you about the first time I tried to can snaps.
I lined those jars up like a pro—listened for the pops, tucked them in the back cabinet, and felt like I was killin’ it.
Fast forward a few months, I walked into my house and nearly passed out.
The smell could’ve knocked a buzzard off a gut wagon.
Turns out… the jars didn’t seal. They turned the prettiest shade of moldy blue and white.
Y’all—I was done.
I didn’t even try again for years.
But last year? I gave it another shot.
I followed the instructions, paid attention to the details, and this time…
The jars sealed. The food kept. And it was so worth it.
Growth Isn’t Instant (and That’s a Good Thing)
We want results fast.
But truthfully? Preserving the good stuff takes time.
You don’t throw cucumbers in a jar and call it a pickle.
It needs to soak. It needs to settle. It needs to process.
God’s doing the same thing in your heart.
He’s preserving truth, healing, and peace that you might not even realize you’ll need down the road.
So don’t rush it.
Let it soak.
You’re Going to Need It Later
There will come a day when you’re standing in a new season feeling lost.
Tired.
Worn down.
And you’ll reach for something that reminds you of God’s goodness.
You’ll pull out a journal. A verse. A moment from your quiet time.
And that’s when you’ll be so thankful you took the time to preserve it.
That’s why I always say:
Write it down now. You’ll need it later.

Final Thoughts
Preserving the good stuff is holy work.
It’s not fancy.
It’s not fast.
But it matters.
Take time to store the peace, the growth, and the joy God is giving you right now.
Because one day, when the season changes, you’ll be so glad you did.
