The Inspiration Behind the Project

Every year, I try to add one statement piece to my Christmas collection—something that feels high-end but still fits that neutral farmhouse meets Ralph Lauren lodge look. When I spotted this Christmas Bells transfer, I immediately knew what direction I was heading: warm plaid, aged wood tones, and a touch of gold ribbon with a vintage twist.
And the end result? Something straight out of a Ralph Lauren holiday magazine spread—without spending designer prices.

How It Came Together

I started by staining my board with Walnut No Pain Gel Stain for that rich, cozy wood look. It was a bit dark, so I began to wipe it back. Wax was needed before applying my Christmas Bells transfer, so I grabbed a paper towel and as I started applying the wax, some of the stain began to lift. We were left with this gorgeous rustic looking shiplap board. Happy Accident I’d say. After it dried, I chalked the Christmas Bells transfer using Espresso paste—simple, elegant, and just enough contrast.

Next, I added plaid ribbon around the edges, dove tailing the corners to look like crisp gift-wrap trim. The finishing touch was the bow—layered gold and red velvet attached those beautiful antique bells, a few sprigs of cedar greenery, and tied in the center.

It’s classic and cozy. It’s giving Ralph Lauren country estate at Christmas.

  • Tartan throw pillows or blankets
