The light still shines — even when life feels heavy, even when the grief hits a little deeper around the holidays, and even when the season doesn’t look the way you pictured it. Today’s episode of Unscripted Conversations is all about the hope God brings right into the middle of our darkness. If you’ve ever walked through a tough Christmas, a lonely season, or just needed a reminder that God sees you… make sure to listen now.
When the Light Still Shines in Hard Seasons
There’s a tender kind of comfort that settles in when we realize God’s light doesn’t erase the darkness — it overpowers it. We talked today about how grief and joy often sit side-by-side this time of year. Many of us are missing someone we love, navigating old memories, or carrying a quiet ache that shows up when the world around us is celebrating.
But the beautiful thing is this: God meets us right there. Psalm 34:18 tells us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” And isn’t that the truth? He doesn’t rush us or lecture us. He simply sits with us, breath-close, steady, present.
And then Jesus looks at us in John 1 and John 8 and reminds us that His light wins — always. He is the light that leads to life… and because of that, we carry that light into our own everyday world. Matthew says we’re like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. And The Message puts it Barney-style for us:
“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world… I’m putting you on a light stand—shine!”
How the Light Still Shines Through Simple Kindness
We wrapped today’s conversation talking about how being a light doesn’t mean being perfect. It means being present. Sometimes the brightest thing you can give someone is a smile, a kind word, a little patience, or even a coffee. Proverbs 4:18 paints that gorgeous picture: “The ways of right-living people glow with light; the longer they live, the brighter they shine.”
Every small act of love grows your glow — in you, and in the people who need it.
