Noni's Homemade Yeast Rolls

Equipment

Ingredients

  • cups Boiling Water
  • ¼ cup Crisco
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ cup Lukewarm Water
  • Packets 3¼ tsp yeast
  • 1 Egg room-temperature
  • 5 Cups All-purpose Flour (Bread Flour)

Instructions

  • Pour boiling water over Crisco, sugar, and salt.
  • Stir until melted, then cool to room temp.
  • In a separate bowl, mix lukewarm water, yeast, and egg; cover and let bloom.
  • Combine the cooled mixture with the yeast mixture and stir well.
  • Add 4 cups of flour and then gradually add flour until dough pulls away from the bowl.
  • Store covered in fridge 1–3 days or shape into 100g rolls.
  • Cover and rise 1–3 hours until doubled.
  • Bake at 425°F for 15–20 minutes, covering halfway with foil to prevent over-browning.
  • Brush with butter and enjoy warm.
