Hannah in the Bible: What to Do While You’re Waiting

If you’ve ever begged God for something and heard nothing back, you’ll find a friend in Hannah in the Bible. She waited year after year for the one thing she wanted most, and her story is a lot more honest than most of us remember. This week on the podcast I’m telling it from the very beginning.
Who Was Hannah?
Her story is in 1 Samuel 1, and chances are you’ve heard the short version. She wanted a baby and prayed for one, and God gave her Samuel. But plenty happens before that happy ending. Hannah lived in a house with another wife who had children and never let her forget it. Her husband adored her and tried his best to cheer her up, though nothing he said could fix it. Then there was the one trip each year that was supposed to be a joy, the trip to worship at Shiloh, and it turned into the hardest part of her year.
What Happened to Hannah in the Bible at Shiloh
One year she finally got up from the table and went off to pray. She didn’t clean it up or make it sound nice. She cried and poured out every bit of her hurt, and she hardly made a sound doing it. The priest, Eli, saw her lips moving and decided she’d had too much to drink. Her answer to him is wonderful, and what she does right after she leaves is the part I can’t get past. You’ll have to listen to hear it.
What Hannah Teaches Us About Waiting
Most of us would love to skip the waiting and go straight to the answer. Hannah didn’t get that choice, and neither do we. But what she did in the middle of it shows us what to do on the days when nothing is changing. If you’re waiting on something right now, I think her story will meet you right where you are. Listen to the full episode below, and then come tell me over on Facebook or Instagram what you’re waiting on.
